Dutch firm 1Minuut Innovation is rolling out Genzõ, a mobile platform available on Android and iOS devices to bring augmented reality to the healthcare industry using smart glasses.

The platform was developed around the M300 smart glasses from New York-based Vuzix.

The aim to is bring real-life experiences virtually to patients that can't enjoy them in person by allowing them to view real-time point of view (PoV) video streamed remotely by the smart glasses. Genzõ uses a social communications platform designed to make PoV video sharing mobile easy and safe to implement. The platform provides a way to connect patients, bring positive experiences and enable patients to watch through the eyes of others from anywhere.

Another aspect of the platform is delivering telemedicine patient care services remotely and hands-free by connecting a doctor in the field to a nurse and patient in the doctor's office or patient facility to augment patient care. Through the platform, ambulatory nurses are instantly connected to a doctor that can observe the patient, provide immediate feedback or care instruction, and act faster and more appropriately.

This technology can also help bridge the labour shortage gap by allowing doctors to service more patients remotely because it removes travel time required by a doctor to come visit the patient.

1Minuut has worked closely with the Dutch healthcare industry over the past four years to develop Genzõ and over the past twelve months it has successfully piloted and placed dozens of smart glasses into operations across the Dutch healthcare industry. The platform has proven in actual field deployments to be safe, reliable and enjoyable.

After four years of development and one year of field testing, it is now being implemented across the healthcare industry as a way to deliver care that improves the efficiency and quality of care and appreciation of life for patients.

The platform enables real-time audio, first person PoV video streaming and file sharing that are easy, mobile and safe. Through collaboration with Deloitte Assuring Medical Apps Netherlands, the mobile platform is also a GDPR-ready application.

"1Minuut is trailblazing the health care industry through the creation of their Genzõ mobile platform that was built around our M300 smart glasses to deliver new experiences that improve the quality and speed of care as well as the appreciation of life for patients," said Paul Travers, Vuzix president. "Vuzix looks forward to supporting 1Minuut's efforts as they continue to roll out their M300 smart glasses based solution across the healthcare industry and positively impact so many more patients in need."
