Taoglas demonstrates horse health monitor at CES
January 8, 2020
Taoglas introduced its latest antenna and RF designs at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and demonstrated an IoT connected health product for the equestrian industry that monitors a horse’s heart rate, activity, behaviour and GPS location in real time.
The Irish company also showed its IoT Edge portfolio including the Edge Locate, Edge Connect and Edge IoT Starter Kit.
Edge Locate is a GNSS L1, L2 and E5 product that combines antenna, RF electronics and receiver, and, when used with real-time kinematic (RTK) positioning capability, the technology can deliver reliable centimetre-level positioning.
Using Edge Locate, manufacturers can build devices with centimetre-level positioning technology, avoiding costly and lengthy RF design, integration and testing processes. The device uses multiband GNSS positioning that may be used with RTK positioning capability with RTK set up and service also provided by Taoglas. It can help enable more reliable location-specific, mission-critical services, such as emergency response, smart infrastructure, precision agriculture and micromobility use cases where precise location provides critical value to the IoT application.
Taoglas recently integrated this technology into an e-scooter pilot launch on the Dublin City University campus.
Edge Connect is an IoT hardware and software platform that provides cellular, Bluetooth and GPS capabilities with sensor integration, device management, an IoT security stack and data-as-a-service out of the box. It was recently chosen by Vodafone in Ireland for its Business Invent application development environment.
The Edge IoT Starter Kit integrates the Edge Connect and Locate platforms. With the kit, enterprises can design, develop, pilot and deploy a range of IoT applications with a short- and long-range wireless hardware and software platform complete with sensors and leverage data gathered from edge devices and sensors for insights.
Taoglas also showed its 5G antenna portfolio, the latest in LTE antennas such as Cat-M and NB-IoT, in addition to a range of wireless technologies encompassing GNSS, wifi, DSRC, CV2X, NFC, Lora and LPWAN.
“As we get closer to fully realising 5G, Taoglas’ expertise in integrating high-performance antennas with IoT will help solve increasingly complex challenges across the consumer and industrial spaces,” said Ronan Quinlan, co-CEO of Taoglas. “Our IoT platforms and antenna portfolio, combined with our world-class design services underscore the value we add as a trusted partner to our customers and enable them to get to market on time, the first time.”
Taoglas has ten design, support and test centres in Ireland, Germany, Poland, Taiwan, China and the USA, in-house manufacturing in Taiwan and the USA, and a dynamic online ordering system.
