Sky Transportation Services has upgraded its fleet of more than 500 dry-van trailers with the SkyBitz Falcon GXT3000, a cellular-based asset tracker providing real-time actionable information.

Texas-based Sky Transportation, a long haul truckload carrier serving continental USA and Mexico, began using trailer tracking from Telular’s Virginia-based subsidiary SkyBitz Enterprise Fleets in 2006. Sky Transportation selected the Falcon GXT3000 to get more frequent reporting for enhanced visibility and better analytic reporting capabilities.

"Our partnership with SkyBitz helps us continue to grow our business and provide our customers with necessary equipment they need," said Manny Roman, general manager at Sky Transportation Services. “In the transportation business, you can’t utilise your equipment effectively if you don’t have reliable tracking on it. Knowing where our trailers are is vital information we need to manage our fleet efficiently, keeping cost projections low, and getting a return on investment.”

Sky Transportation is located only a few kilometres from the Mexican border, where it services many customers. Without direct visibility or the right tracking equipment installed on its trailers, there is potential to lose equipment and money. With the GXT3000, it can get a complete breadcrumb trail view and set up geographic perimeter based alerts at key landmarks and around its assets.

A feature available with the GXT3000 is detention billing. With visibility into how long a trailer has been sitting at a site, it can now bill for assets in detention time and can get even more RoI out of its equipment.

"We are pleased to continue our partnership with Sky Transportation and helping them to succeed in growing their business," said Henry Popplewell, president of SkyBitz. “By adopting our latest telematics technology, they’re equipped to better address their cross-border business demands including increasing security and efficiencies. When coupled with our dedicated customer service team, our customers receive not only best-in-class, they receive timely support and insights to help them get the most out of their investment."

Since 2000, Sky Transportation Services has been serving the shipping industry as an over-the-road carrier. It carries 48-state authority, but its main lanes are the northeast, southeast, midwest and southern California.

Telular, which recently acquired SkyBitz, announced last month that it has passed the one million IoT subscribers landmark in the commercial telematics and security markets.

“Telular’s growth is a result of our focus on helping our customers uncover new revenue opportunities, lower operating costs, and improve productivity through a combination of award winning technology, SaaS based analytics and fleet management platforms and the highest commitment to our customers’ success,” said Doug Milner, CEO of Telular. “We are honoured to have been selected by the most progressive and innovative companies in the industries that we serve to be their partner in delivering more value from their fleet and asset investments.”
