Orbcomm has launched a range of solar-powered trackers for dry trailers and containers. The GT 1200 devices are part of a telematics range that includes multiple sensor options, applications and cellular and optional satellite connectivity.

The GT 1200 series is an evolution of the New Jersey firm’s GT 1100 line and includes an enhanced, high-sensitivity solar panel that charges up to 20 times faster than its predecessor even without direct sunlight, resulting in up to three times more messages per day for increased asset use.

The compact devices are ruggedised to withstand extreme conditions, require no battery changes for up to ten years and include built-in tamper and impact detection. They can be configured with Orbcomm’s integrated cargo sensor and other wireless sensors.

With a streamlined design, the devices can be installed externally on all cargo asset types in about ten minutes, even when the asset is full, making deployments quick and efficient with little disruption to operations.

“Orbcomm’s new GT 1200 series is part of our comprehensive innovation plan to enhance nearly all our products to expand our existing capabilities and provide customers with advanced technology and unmatched value,” said Marc Eisenberg, Orbcomm’s chief executive officer. “With expanded support for wireless sensors, an improved solar panel and safer, faster field installation, the GT 1200 product line features the latest in asset tracking technology and offers incremental benefits to our transportation customers looking to streamline their fleet operations and gain efficiencies.”

They include a three-axis accelerometer for motion and impact detection. And they are available as a trailer tracking package that includes connectivity and a customisable application with reports, dynamic dashboards, analytics, two-way commands and more. Users can integrate the data feed into third-party transportation management systems and proprietary enterprise applications.

There are two variants. The GT 1200 gives complete visibility for trailers and containers without maintenance or battery changes with reporting and analytics to help streamline processes and improve efficiencies. The GT 1210 is an all-in-one tracking device with integrated cargo sensors that delivers remote asset management and cargo status detection capabilities with little wiring.
