Enterprise IoT company Numerex and Software Tech Enterprises, a provider of IT services to federal, state and local government agencies, are working together to provide satellite tracking systems to the US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
This will enable real-time visibility for high value assets such as critical equipment and materials for disaster relief assistance. These asset-tracking systems allow logistics managers to track and manage tens of thousands of assets in the field, especially in times of little or no cellular service and connectivity.
FEMA, part of the Department of Homeland Security, is the USA’s pre-eminent emergency management agency. The Numerex and STE programme allows FEMA to maintain continuous visibility throughout the disaster supply chain, which includes FEMA-owned assets and resources.
FEMA has been using Atlanta, Georgia-based Numerex’s satellite asset tracking systems since 2009, but now through Illinois-based STE, future growth opportunities may exist by expansion of the FEMA programme or by furthering the programme’s reach into additional federal agencies, non-governmental organisations, state and local governments, as well as the private sector.
"Numerex is pleased to maintain this highly successful programme in partnership with STE with the critical mission of providing vital supply chain visibility to FEMA and other emergency response stakeholders,” said Marc Hoffmann, Numerex’s VP of enterprise IoT. “Our platforms and technologies are optimised to perform reliably in the most challenging disaster environments and we are proud to support our nation’s first responders."
In addition to asset tracking technology, the STE and Numerex teams provide on-going logistics and operational support as part of an end-to-end managed service.
"Our teams' unique systems expertise and extensive experience managing government technology services enable this best of class asset tracking programme,” said Dwayne Jackson, Software Tech Enterprises president. “We are excited about working with Numerex and look forward to expanding our partnership in the future."
