Italian telecoms company Italtel is extending its work with Cisco on smart grid applications for electrical utilities, the two companies announced last week at Cisco Live in Milan.
Leveraging Cisco’s hardware and software technologies, for the past couple of years Italtel has taken up its path to IoT and, in particular, to developing smart grid systems for electric utilities. Italtel has now increased the value of Cisco’s proposition with a complete set of specialised professional services.
Added to the traditional plan-design-implement service lifecycle are advisory services that build a bridge between customers’ needs and vendors’ portfolios by leading the customers to the best technological choices, while driving the selected vendors to improve their products with the specific features required.
“Italtel steadily believes the IoT can help industries to transform their operating strategies, thus gaining competitive advantage,” said Camillo Ascione, head of system integration strategy and marketing for Italtel. Thanks to Cisco’s innovative technology, we are actively working on several verticals, such as energy, manufacturing and transportation, partnering with our customers to drive their evolution towards IoT."
Since last year, Italtel has been extending its IoT catalogue to the manufacturing market. Network and IT technologies can provide real-time insight into manufacturing processes and allow manufacturers to satisfy customers’ demands more quickly, while reducing operating costs.
Smart manufacturers can create value by opening their industrial plants to IT enterprise applications enabling an effective interoperability, and by leveraging Italtel networking and ICT expertise in terms of network security, Wifi coverage, and data centre and analytics management. To approach this market, Italtel has defined a common strategy with selected partners such as industrial automation company Rockwell.
Because of the commitment that Italtel is spending on the IoT sector, Italtel was awarded the Cisco Partner of the Year Award for EMEAR for IoT applications in 2014.
We are proud of being awarded this prestigious prize that motivates us to go further on this path, also approaching other verticals, like retail and real-estate,” said Ascione.
