Fairchild Freight, Brown Logistics select ORBCOMM
April 7, 2016
North American consumer food transporter Fairchild Freight has chosen ORBCOMM to provide dual-mode cold chain telematics to track and monitor its refrigerated trailers. In a parallel announcement, Brown Integrated Logistics, a regional transportation specialist in the US South East has selected ORBCOMM to provide its solar-powered asset tracking solution for their dry van trailers.
ORBCOMM will provide Fairchild Freight with both satellite and cellular connectivity through state-of-the-art hardware and a web-based reporting platform for optimal fleet management.
Fairchild Freight will use ORBCOMM’s cold chain telematics solution to provide temperature, fuel management and maintenance data for its refrigerated trailers. Fairchild Freight will integrate data with its proprietary back-office platform to optimise temperature compliance and asset utilisation.
Fairchild Freight will be one of the first customers to take advantage of ORBCOMM’s integration with PeopleNet’s fleet performance monitoring platform, providing Fairchild Freight visibility to more asset classes on one platform.
Brown is using ORBCOMM’s ruggedized trailer telematics system, which is self-powered with solar recharging technology for low power consumption and long service life, eliminating the need for frequent battery changes. ORBCOMM’s end-to-end solution also includes a web application with data reporting and analytics capabilities to increase in-transit visibility and security of Brown’s dry van assets. ORBCOMM’s solution integrates closely with TMW Systems’ TruckMate transportation management platform. This interface enables Brown to capture near-real-time trailer data, including operational condition, GPS position, history, as well as arrival and departure status, through one comprehensive system, increasing asset utilization and improving their tractor-to-trailer ratio.
“ORBCOMM is the leader in cold chain telematics. Their ability to provide real-time access to critical temperature and operational data for our refrigerated trailers is second to none,” said Chris Rawls, Director of Logistics at Fairchild Freight. “By utilising ORBCOMM’s solution, we can maintain the highest level of quality and integrity for our perishable cargo, which translates into providing best-in-class service for our customers, while enabling us to meet the requirements for the FDA’s upcoming Food Safety Modernisation Act.”
“ORBCOMM is providing us with a long-term, maintenance-free solution that can operate in the field for several years without changing the batteries, so we can greatly reduce maintenance costs without losing touch with our trailers no matter where they are,” said Kevin Slaughter, President of Brown Trucking Company, a division of Brown Integrated Logistics. “ORBCOMM’s seamless integration with the TMW platform gives us a greater advantage by delivering the valuable trailer data we need through one combined data feed, which has significantly improved our operational efficiency.”
“ORBCOMM’s dual-mode cold chain solution gives Fairchild Freight the best of both worlds for wireless connectivity to support their remote and mobile refrigerated operations – continuous coverage, complete visibility and optimal price,” said Marc Eisenberg, ORBCOMM’s Chief Executive Officer. “Whether Fairchild Freight’s trailers are traveling through the roughest terrain of North America or the arctic conditions of northern Yukon and Alaska, ORBCOMM ensures they will always know where their assets are and how they are operating.”
“We are pleased to be selected by Brown to upgrade their trailer tracking technology with our advanced telematics solution and an integrated reporting platform, which will immediately improve their dry van trailer operations,” said Marc Eisenberg, ORBCOMM’s Chief Executive Officer. “We look forward to delivering the benefits of our trailer telematics solution across Brown’s entire fleet so they can realize a powerful return on investment and sustainable value for their business.”
Deployments at Fairchild Freight began in the first quarter of 2016 and will continue throughout the second quarter of 2016.
Brown has begun installing ORBCOMM’s trailer tracking solution on their dry van assets and expects to continue deployments throughout 2016.
