The Dubai Electricity & Water Authority (Dewa) has signed MoUs with three start-ups to advance its capabilities in artificial intelligence (AI), electrical load control and the IoT.

The memorandums of understanding will see the three start-ups work with Dewa in the fourth Dubai Future Accelerators Programme. The programme is organised by the Dubai Future Foundation, with the theme ‘One Team Co-Creating the Future’. It aims to strengthen the UAE's position, enhance its role as a hub for shaping the future and make it a platform to test technologies.

Through its participation in the programme, Dewa aims to continue to explore and develop innovative and sustainable solutions to its problems.

The MoUs aim to strengthen cooperation to find innovations in AI, electrical load control and the IoT. The MoUs also aim to transform the Dewa office at the Dubai Future Accelerators premises in Emirates Towers into a smart office based on IoT, as well as test two self-cleaning devices for solar power panels.

HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, CEO of Dewa witnessed the signing, and said it reflected the words of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, prime minister of the UAE, who once observed that: “Our 2071 strategy is founded on a set of fundamentals, primarily artificial intelligence across all our government and private sectors.”

Al Tayer said this also supported the vision of Al Makroum to make Dubai a global role model for clean energy and green economy, by keeping pace with the fourth industrial revolution and disruptive technologies such as AI, drones, energy storage, blockchain and the IoT.

“The signing of these MoUs also comes within the framework of achieving the objectives of the 10x initiative launched by His Highness to propel Dubai into the future, putting it ten years ahead of other global cities through government innovation,” said Al Tayer. “Dewa participated in the fourth Dubai Future Accelerator Programme to develop new technologies that help improve the quality of electricity and water services. In this round of the Dubai Future Accelerator Programme, we will cooperate with the three selected companies to adopt innovative solutions that manage the accelerating changes and address the future challenges in the main sectors of Dewa’s work.”

Dewa has participated in the three rounds of the Dubai Future Accelerator Programme, which concluded with 11 MoUs and five pilot projects. Dewa is working on the completion of six new projects related to its services and its digital transformation and smart infrastructure.
