One of the largest electric distribution companies in El Salvador, the Distribuidora de Electricidad del Sur (Delsur), after a process of nearly three years, has invested $1.6m in a smart grid system to achieve a more efficient service for 360,000 users and provide the reliability to distribute power over 10,000km.
"Our main commitment is ensuring that our users have a reliable and safe electrical network that meets the highest standards of quality, stability and continuity in the supply of energy,” said Delsur general manager Roberto Gonzalez.
The technology comes from Georgia, USA, company Advanced Control Systems (ACS) with its Prism scada system.
“With this significant investment in ACS proven technology with mobile capabilities we took a major step towards levels of modernisation that position us as a leader in innovation," said Gonzalez.
Victor Zaldana, Delsur distribution manager, said the Prism outage management system (OMS) easily integrated with Delsur’s current system system, so much that the company made the migration without affecting electric service to their customers.
"Delsur is improving its quality of service standards, quick fault detection and certainty in identifying causes, speed in care of interruptions, efficient identification with alternative solutions, and real-time feedback to customer capabilities, among others,” said Zaldana.
According to Delsur IT manager, Alicia Breucop, "Delsur has the technology to create a circle of continuous improvement services for our customers. A big advantage is that these products are within a family of applications provided by ACS to manage long-term growth and our vision for an optimal smart grid."
ACS CEO Kevin Sullivan added: "We are proud to know that Delsur, with its history of first class excellence, is the first company in Central America, integrating the Prism scada platform to make decisions in real-time emergency conditions allowing the deployment of the best fault detection, isolation and restoration technology possible."
And Jorge Herrera, ACS regional director for Latin America, Mexico and the Caribbean, said: "ACS and Delsur have had a positive relationship since 2004, earning our trust for customer satisfaction. Our scada, DMS and OMS supports their demands for customer service as our flagship in Latin America. Having deployed a full suite of technology associated with on-going future benefits, we are pleased to continue our collaboration through our new ACS Center of Excellence in El Salvador.”
