Hardware player Eurotech has appointed Geoffrey Morton its new Group vice president for the M2M and Internet of Things line (IoT) of business.

Morton is to work on coordinating worldwide sales of the M2M and IoT offerings and will also lead the development of indirect channels, says the company.

Besides supervising and controlling sales activities carried out by local teams in each Group subsidiary, this will mean collaborating with value-added resellers and systems integrators on indirect channel development.

According to Eurotech (Amaro, Italy), he comes to the role with more than 30 years of experience in developing business for both hardware and software solutions.

Morton previously led the worldwide Java commercial business unit for Oracle (Redwood City, CA, USA) as Group Vice President before taking up his new role at Eurotech.

His main responsibilities while working for the database giant were to define the strategy, go-to-market and engagement models for the Java business, and also to help coordinate sales and marketing initiatives aimed at growing Oracle’s presence in the IoT sector.

“I’m very pleased that Geoffrey has joined Eurotech to boost the market penetration of our M2M and IoT offering,” said Roberto Siagri, the president and chief executive of Eurotech. “His extensive experience and proven abilities in successfully leading the business development of world-class hardware and software solutions will help us in getting traction on the market in terms of maximizing the number of customers and early adopters of our M2M platforms and IoT solutions.”

Morton says he was attracted to Eurotech by its “end-to-end approach” to the M2M and IoT opportunity.

“The device and data management platform that Eurotech has developed is second to none and I’m looking forward to tackle the challenge of boosting the sales of such an innovative solution for the IoT era,” he said.
