North American truckload carrier Knight Transportation is to expand its deployment of trailer fleet management solutions from ID Systems.

The company says a new deal will add more than 400 tracking systems to its trailer fleet.

Those include VeriWise Reefer, designed for refrigerated trailers, and Veriwise Dry Van, which includes cargo sensing for dry van trailers.

Dry Van provides reports on trailer location and status, even if a trailer is disconnected from tractor power for an extended period, while Reefer has been integrated with Thermo King and Carrier – two leading reefer manufacturers – and allows users to manage temperature set points automatically, providing real-time alerts.

Knight (Phoenix, AZ, USA) has been a customer of ID Systems (Woodcliff Lake, NJ, USA) since 2000 and says the company’s technology has enabled it to remain ahead of rivals.

It currently maintains a fleet of around 9,000 trailers and reported revenues of $969 million in 2013.

“We have tightly integrated VeriWise fleet management technology into our trailer operations and view it as a significant competitive advantage,” said Steve Grover, Knight’s senior vice president of technology and innovation. “VeriWise systems provide effective, reliable visibility and situational awareness of our trailer fleets to help us optimize asset utilization, minimize costs and improve customer service.”

The VeriWise asset tracking systems combine sensor, wireless and web technologies to help customers manage trailers and cargo.
Systems can be set up to automatically identify, analyze and respond to critical transportation issues to improve the efficiency and security of logistics operations, says ID Systems.
