Big data player Symphony Analytics has launched what it claims is the M2M industry’s most advanced predictive analytics service for connected devices, saying the technology will lead to huge costs savings and efficiency improvements across a range of vertical markets.

The company’s ORION platform is intended to give enterprises the ability to generate real-time insights from the large amounts of data that are generated by connected devices.

Those insights could help organizations to develop more competitive products or make adjustments to existing business processes to boost profitability.

Symphony (Plano, TX, USA) says players in a variety of markets are increasingly looking to real-time predictive analytics as a way of improving their services and lowering costs.

Indeed, in the automotive sector alone, market-research company Gartner reckons that by 2020 more than 80% of all new vehicles sold in mature automobile markets such as the US will offer connected-vehicle functionality.

“Today’s consumers want very specific features that enhance the driving and ownership experience,” said Thilo Kowlowski, an analyst at Gartner. “The era of the connected vehicle will help the automotive industry to redefine value propositions for its customers by going beyond realizing all profits at the point of sale when a customer purchases a vehicle.”

According to Symphony, ORION is capable of processing big data from a variety of different sources, meaning it can extract intelligence from connected devices and corresponding business applications.

The company is making the technology available as a pre-integrated component of its InSight Connect cloud services platform for M2M and the connected car.

“As the number of M2M devices continues to surge, there is significant potential for end users to implement more efficient processes and reap financial benefits,” said Satheesh Kumar, the general manager of Symphony Analytics. “By offering real-time analytical insights, ORION enables the operationalization of analytics, letting industrial enterprises take advantage of this potential and deliver solutions that will drive customer value.”
