Fleet-management and vehicle-tracking service provider Ctrack says it partnership with hardware player u-blox has allowed it to provide the highest levels of connectivity and reliability to fleet operators.

The company develops a range of vehicle-tracking services and is using wireless technology from u-blox (Thalwil, Switzerland) – incorporating GPS and cellular connectivity – to ensure services are available in even the remotest locations.

Using modules supplied by u-blox, Ctrack (Irene, South Africa) claims that its vehicle-management systems are able to offer round-the-clock internet-based surveillance capabilities, including real-time and historical positional overview, automatic alerts in the case of unauthorized vehicle movement or tampering, area alerts and an optional remote panic button.

“With over 10 vehicles stolen per hour in South Africa alone, our vehicle tracking systems provide security and peace of mind to fleet managers around the world by preventing theft and enabling recovery,” said Mark Rousseau, the chief operating officer of Ctrack, “In addition, our products increase operational efficiency, driver productivity and safety.”

“For these mission-critical features, we only select components with the highest reliability on the market,” he added. “For GPS positioning and cellular connectivity, we depend on u-blox.”

Ctrack revealed it is also partnering with global cellular providers including Vodafone (Newbury, UK) and MTN (Johannesburg, South Africa) to provide real-time visibility of vehicles and systems being tracked.

By using mapping applications from Google (Mountain View, CA, USA), HERE (Helsinki, Finland) and TomTom (Amsterdam, Netherlands), Ctrack claims to offer customers a choice of normal, terrain and satellite views in its software applications.

“u-blox has a long history as the number one supplier of satellite positioning and embedded cellular communication modules in Africa,“ said Jennifer Nkire, area sales manager for u-blox, “Our partnership with Ctrack is a result of our total commitment to provide them with the best products and technical support available.”
