Healthcare technology players BettrLife and Viridian Health Management have teamed up on the development of a service they say will help to improve diabetes care and prevention.

The partnership will see BettrLife’s (Urbandale, IA, USA) mobile health software integrated with Viridian’s (Phoenix, AZ, USA) Maestro-branded population health management platform – allowing users to interact directly with Viridian’s “health coaches”.

Following the tie-up with BettrLife, coaches using Viridian’s platform will be able to capture data from remote monitoring devices as well as track food intake and nutritional details.

Meanwhile, BettrLife’s Health Coach Dashboard will allow the coaches to provide customized content and information to patients.

“Viridian is excited to partner with BettrLife to support the National Diabetes Prevention Program and better manage patients with diabetes,” said Brenda Schmidt, the chief executive of Viridian Health Management. “BettrLife is easy for people to use, yet has advanced capabilities designed to increase knowledge and reinforce healthy habits.”

“We expect that a higher percentage of health coaching participants who track their meals and physical activity using the BettrLife platform will stay actively engaged and meet their weight loss goals,” she added. “BettrLife's integration with the Viridian Maestro population health platform provides seamless data integration to support our national network of program providers and health coaches.”

The mobile and web-based tools developed by BettrLife include a “smart-logging” function that provides suggestions of the most commonly chosen foods, allowing users to log details of their meals in just a few clicks, says the company.

Meanwhile, a search feature uses Google’s search engine to scan thousands of recipes, as well as BettrLife’s database of restaurants and USDA food data.

“Our technology is proven to be a powerful addition to any existing health and wellness programs,” said Don Schoen, the chief executive of BettrLife. “We've built a modular toolset that can integrate easily with systems like Viridian's Maestro platform while enhancing care outcomes for populations with diabetes and other chronic conditions.”
