Irish M2M player Cubic Telecom has announced a deal with China Unicom under which it will support the use of M2M devices and OEM wireless connectivity on the operator’s Chinese network.
The company’s platform uses over-the-air (OTA) technology developed to support software updates, telematics services, infotainment, location-based services and real-time data management for M2M service providers and OEMs.
In particular, the companies aim to support the deployment of embedded internet connectivity for automotive companies in China, using Qualcomm’s (San Diego, CA, USA) Gobi 6200 chipset and the capabilities of the HSPA+ network that China Unicom (Beijing, China) recently launched in Beijing.
“Our platform technology provides a means for OEMs to establish a continuous, post-sale relationship with their customers and increase satisfaction and loyalty to the brand, while generating sustainable incremental revenues,” said Barry Napier, Cubic Telecom’s (Dublin, Ireland) chief executive.
“We have designed our OTA solution to enable connectivity not just for today, but for the future needs of the connected device globally on the best in class mobile networks,” he added.
Cubic last year secured $5.2 million in funding from a mixture of investors, including Qualcomm and ACT Venture Capital (Dublin, Ireland).
China Unicom now claims to support more than 130 million customers throughout the country.
