Voxiva and Amerigroup say 100,000 members have already signed up to their Txt4health program, described as a mobile health and wellness program for adults aged 18 and over.

Amerigroup – a subsidiary of health-benefits company WellPoint (Indianapolis, IN, USA) – began offering the Voxiva-developed Txt4health service in December last year and says it is providing a variety of benefits to its users.

“We're proud to offer Amerigroup members Voxiva's [Washington, D.C.] innovative Tx4health service, increasing ease of access to care for our diverse membership," said Mary McCluskey, senior vice president and chief medical officer of WellPoint Government Business Division. “Using Tx4health we can encourage wellness through education, whether its general health tips or reminders to schedule appointments, our primary goal is to improve health and wellness for our members."

Txt4health is intended to give users timely and personalized health information in text-messaging format – encouraging users to follow recommended guidelines for physical exams, preventive screenings, flu shots and vaccinations and to make them aware of services and benefits available through Amerigroup.

The program is aimed at improving key quality measures for health plans and increasing member satisfaction.

It is currently on offer to Medicaid plan members in eleven US states where Amerigroup operates.

Eligible plans members receive a SafeLink phone including up to 250 minutes each month, free calls to Amerigroup’s member services, unlimited text messages and the Txt4health health messages.

“Voxiva has pioneered the delivery of large scale mobile health services that leverage digital technology to help people live their healthiest possible lives,” said Paul Meyer, the chairman and president of Voxiva. “The rapid growth to 100,000 users demonstrates these services are in demand and we already know through multiple independent evaluations that these types of service can improve compliance with preventive health guidelines.”
