Option launches LTE version of CloudGate

M2M hardware player Option has announced that its CloudGate platform has just been certified for use on 4G LTE networks.

The company described this as a major boost for its business, noting that LTE is emerging as the preferred network technology standard for connected devices that will have long lifecycles.

Option (Leuven, Belgium) also claims that LTE will provide superior performance to older technologies for applications where responsiveness is critical.

It should also give rise to new possibilities for smart wireless solutions that require high speeds and large data loads.

The same version of its CloudGate technology has been certified on the LTE networks of major mobile operators in the US, Latin America, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

This should massively reduce the logistical complexity for its channel partners, and help international manufacturers of industrial goods incorporating gateways by allowing them to ship the same product regardless of the country of destination.

M2M solutions are being developed for devices that may have to operate for five or ten years, it says, and the expected lifespan of 2G and 3G networks is getting shorter and shorter.

Option says LTE compatibility will provide investment protection for evolving business models in the coming years.

The CloudGate product also comes with features like ignition sensing and timed wake-up, which are supposed to be ideal for telematics and solar applications.

Option is working with Avnet (Phoenix, AZ, USA) and GetWireless (Minnetonka, MN, USA), among others, to distribute the CloudGate platform to channel partners.

“We are excited to expand our collaboration with Option, a leading provider of M2M solutions,” said Alastair Worth, marketing director of Avnet Embedded. “As the adoption of M2M technologies continues to grow and LTE networks are rapidly being deployed, having CloudGate LTE as well as its sister product CloudGate 3G, allows Avnet Embedded to offer customers the perfect balance between bandwidth requirements, longevities and total cost of ownership.”
