ASAP Systems launches inventory monitoring for healthcare providers

Asset-tracking specialist ASAP Systems has released a new service allowing hospitals and other healthcare institutions to track inventory and better manage their equipment needs.

The service allows users to automatically track all types of medical supplies by expiry date as well as serial, batch or lot numbers, and also to automate various supply chain functions.

Healthcare administrators and staff will be able to manage medications or devices throughout the entire inventory lifecycle in real time, says the company, ensuring that valuable supplies do not expire, get misused or go missing.

Configurable reporting and analytics functionalities are also available so that users can develop further insight into the use of their medical inventory and improve their practices in future.

“When it comes to inventory and asset tracking, we understand our customers’ needs and situations are constantly changing,” said Elie Touma, the chief executive of ASAP Systems. “That is why we designed our systems to be configurable and flexible; so they may accommodate evolving operations.”

The service is based on the use of ASAP Systems’ Passport and BarCloud technologies – with Passport described as a “locally installed system” and BarCloud offering “cloud-based” capabilities.

These give users the flexibility to start with basic functions and add more advanced modules as and when they choose, said ASAP Systems (San Jose, CA, USA).

Belmont University’s School of Nursing is already using Passport to track consumables with a limited shelf life at its six simulation labs.

“We spoke with several companies offering inventory management software,” said Kathy Pope, a registered nurse at Belmont University (Nashville, TN, USA). “What separated ASAP Systems was their overall customer service and the system’s ease-of-use.”

The company says that Pope and her colleagues also track all required maintenance, like cleaning, upgrades and calibrations needed for medical and simulation equipment, using its technology.

By monitoring those activities through calendar events, with automated alerts, the institution has been able to increase the lifetime of assets.

The system also allows medical staff to automate stock supply by generating a stock inventory transfer or placing a purchase order.
