Energy management specialist Blue Pillar has unveiled two new power management software platforms that are intended to help companies reduce their energy spending and make their energy operations more efficient.

“Keeping the lights on in facilities where bad things happen when the lights go off is a major issue, considering the US economy loses $125 billion annually due to power outages,” said Tom Willie, the chief executive of Blue Pillar (Indianapolis, IN, USA). “Blue Pillar’s new platform solutions supported by additional venture funding, are specifically designed to support these critical facilities in solving these complex problems worldwide.”

Blue Pillar adds that various complex single-site and multi-site facilities are looking for new technologies to protect themselves against aging infrastructure and to reduce energy and operating costs.

The company’s new Aurora platform is designed to securely collect data about energy usage from facility equipment, while Avise Foresite allows facility operators to centrally manage energy efficiency.

Both platforms are intended to augment Blue Pillar’s Avise Insite real-time analytics offering so that facility operators can gain a better understanding of energy and operations capabilities.

“The aging workforce, increased campus consolidation, managing cost pressures and energy efficiency program tracking are requiring a corporate level oversight of energy and operational data in a single platform,” said Mike Jude, a research manager with Frost & Sullivan. “Blue Pillar is the only company with a vendor-agnostic solution that addresses the need today – at both the local and enterprise levels – for critical and complex facilities.”

Healthcare services company Tenet Healthcare (Dallas, TX, USA) is already using Blue Pillar’s technology to operate some 60 facilities across the US and says this has allowed it to enhance patient care and safety through better energy management.

“Deploying Blue Pillar’s solution for Tenet Healthcare’s energy fleet helps us minimize overall energy spend, streamline our day-to-day energy management operations and make a meaningful contribution to the stability of the power grid,” said Tenet’s Ken Sutherland.

Managing marginal well operations is labor intensive. Pumpers drive to each tank daily to check water and oil levels and equipment, including drilling motors. If levels are too high, pumps must be manually shut down to avoid spills and incurring fines and cleanup costs.
