CH Robinson forms division to harness logistics technology for oil and gas industries
January 7, 2015
CH Robinson has set up an oil and gas division with the aim of using its Navisphere global technology platform to enable better coordination between transport suppliers and warehouses.
The division is headed by Kent Stuart, who has been with the company for 25 years and is director of business development. It has also recruited Corey Gear, who has more than 20 years of experience in supply chain management and logistics and previously worked for BDP and Deutsche Post DHL, where at each he established and led oil and gas verticals.
The division will use the company’s global network and Navisphere technology to develop supply chains that can improve efficiencies.
“Oil and gas companies are experts in their business, but as demand for their products has increased, we are seeing the limitations that can occur with their fragmented supply chains,” said Chris O’Brien, senior vice president at CH Robinson. “The opportunities in the oil and gas industry focus on supply chain management and logistics needs now, more than ever.”
By using one of the largest ocean, air, project logistics and over-the-road carrier networks in the world, CH Robinson is helping oil and gas companies with their expanded pursuit of oil and gas into new strategic geographies. By eliminating the need of coordinating with an array of independent transportation suppliers and warehouses, it removes time from the supply chain.
Gaps in communications between the shipper and its suppliers and customers can cause significant confusion and unnecessary costs. Navisphere eliminates these gaps, so shippers gain business intelligence that drives continuous improvement and visibility to each shipment.
“We are having great success leveraging our ability to improve processes, control work, manage spend and ensure compliance with oil and gas companies and their suppliers,” said O’Brien. “Our team’s knowledge and experience is instrumental as we continue to position CH Robinson as a dominant supply chain solutions provider for the industry.”
