Vehicle tracking specialist Azuga has announced that its services will be made available over the network of Verizon Wireless.

The tie-up will allow Azuga customers to receive performance updates and other M2M services over Verizon’s infrastructure.

“We chose Verizon Wireless [New York, CA, USA] to make Azuga Fleet’s technology even more accessible, simpler and reliable for fleet managers to utilize,” said Ananth Rani, Azuga’s vice president and general manager. “Azuga will be expanding its roadmap to encompass products related to IoT in 2015 and we look forward to working with Verizon as we develop these and bring them to market.”

Verizon says it will be able to help Azuga increase fleet efficiencies and promote safer driving behavior through the partnership.

“This new service is a simple and quick solution for any fleet manager to rapidly deploy GPS fleet tracking and driver behavior solutions,” said Lauren Love-Wright, a regional president at Verizon Wireless.

Azuga says a range of Verizon’s M2M services – including secure mobility, device provisioning and troubleshooting – will be offered to customers.

The company expects the partnership to lead to overall productivity gains and to keep drivers safe at a cost of just “70 cents per day per vehicle”, it said in a statement.

Based in San Diego, Azuga claims to be shaking up the traditional GPS vehicle tracking market through price-based competition, easy-to-install hardware and what it describes as “rewards-driven social telematics”.

Its cloud-based fleet management service can allow customers to begin tracking fleets in as little as 30 seconds, it claims.
