Axiom and DAC partner on health monitoring in space

Commercial space station developer Axiom Space and Danish Aerospace Company (DAC), creator of astronauts' wearables and other health monitoring devices, are collaborating to develop and test human performance monitoring and exercise technology for use in space.
 
The two companies signed a cooperative agreement to test DAC-made systems on upcoming Axiom human spaceflights to low-Earth orbit (LEO), beginning with an experiment involving wearables to measure astronaut vitals on Axiom's first mission to the International Space Station (ISS).
 
"Our collaboration with Axiom represents an important step in DAC's efforts to contribute to commercial space systems being developed for LEO," said DAC CEO Thomas Andersen. "We have been maturing our human performance monitoring and exercise technology through prototypes for the past several years. Now we look forward to the opportunity Axiom provides for the continuity of our capability demonstration."
 
The Danish company, which has developed and operated medical monitoring and exercise systems for more than 25 years, is building wireless physiological monitors and compact exercise equipment that can support humans in space and other extreme environments.
 
In addition to crew health monitoring, they will explore using DAC's Fergo commercial space ergometer and its multifunction exercise system on the future Axiom Station.
 
DAC previously developed ergometers regularly used in the Space Shuttle and ISS programmes.

Axiom Space sends crew to the ISS while building an international commercial space station to host professional government astronauts, private astronauts and private entities for research, manufacturing, space exploration systems testing and advertising.
 
DAC operates in the area of medical instrumentation and other engineering fields for space and other extreme environment applications. The company is in Odense, Denmark, and is a subsidiary of the M Goldschmidt Group, owned by Mikael Goldschmidt.
