Avnet Silica has been appointed as a franchised distributor for the Emea region for Digi International, a provider of IoT connectivity products and services.
The relationship between Avnet Silica and Digi is part of the recently announced global agreement whereby Avnet was appointed as one of Digi’s global distribution partners. Avnet Silica has therefore become a major channel in the Emea region to service the fast-growing market for Digi’s wireless products and technologies.
“It’s a privilege to announce an extended relationship with Avnet,” said Chris Bowen, Digi vice president. “As a leading Emea distributor of electronic components, Avnet Silica allows Digi International to deepen its presence throughout the region.”
Digi is known for its wireless and system-on-module (SoM) products for industrial markets and XBee RF modems and cellular modems. In addition, Digi is a preferred partner for NXP, which augments and strengthens Avnet Silica’s portfolio of wireless products that are based around NXP’s semiconductor technologies.
While all Digi International’s products and technologies will be available via Avnet Silica, a key focus for the distributor will be in the area of RF and embedded SoMs for industrial IoT markets and applications.
“Digi International is fast making itself into one of the world’s leading vendors of secure and highly reliable wireless components and technologies for a range of industrial markets, including food services, facilities monitoring, retail and healthcare, as well as the transportation and logistics sectors,” said Laurence Dellicott, director of supplier management at Avnet Silica. “The Digi International product portfolio is also an excellent complement to our existing industrial IoT solutions, and we look forward to bringing these innovative technologies to market.”
Digi has unveiled the TransPort WR64, a cellular router with dual redundant communications for complex transit systems.

This dual module LTE-Advanced router is designed to support the connectivity needs of transit agencies and their riders with cellular and wifi connectivity today, and the ability to add components for future 5G functionality. Along with enterprise class routing, it integrates security, firewall and VPN functions.
