Advantech has acquired an 80% stake in Omron Nohgata, a subsidiary of Omron. Omron Nohgata will now be known as Advantech Technologies Japan (ATJ).
ATJ focuses on applications in factory automation, machinery and medical sectors. It will be led by the current management team and will join Advantech´s embedded IoT business group in developing products and integrating sales resources.
With this acquisition, Taiwan-based Advantech will effectively expand its embedded system market share in Japan and enhance its localised manufacturing services capability. Advantech further envisions cooperation with Omron in IoT platform development.
“Japan is Advantech’s strategic market for IoT business opportunities,” said Miller Chang, president of the embedded IoT group. “It is our view that there are big opportunities in both industrial and IoT markets given the strong and advanced industrial demand. Japan-based industrial customers generate stable demand and moderate growth in embedded system markets annually.”
The current core business of ATJ is design and manufacturing services for domain customers such as healthcare, robotics industry and machine builders.
“In the future, ATJ will cooperate with Advantech Japan’s Tokyo office in sales organisation and leverage Advantech’s strength in centralised component procurement, embedded computing design-in capability, and Wise-PaaS IoT platforms to expand their business scope,” said Chang. “We believe this acquisition can hugely improve the competitiveness of ATJ and enhance Advantech’s domestic market coverage in Kyushu and other parts of western Japan.”
Advantech specialises in IoT intelligent systems and embedded platforms. To embrace the trends of IoT, big data and artificial intelligence, it promotes IoT hardware and software with the edge intelligence Wise-PaaS core to assist business partners and clients in connecting their industrial chains. The company is also working with business partners to co-create business ecosystems that accelerate the goal of industrial intelligence.
